Founder and Executive Director
After receiving an undergraduate degree in History and a graduate degree in Education from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, Jeff taught for six years in Massachusetts, Texas, and New Hampshire. Jeff read about the education gap in Nicaragua and founded Amped for Education to close it. In 2010, he called on his teaching and tourism experience to create an educational opportunity for his high school students, in what was the first of many voluntourism experiences. In his spare time, Jeff enjoys coaching baseball, hot sauce, straight shaves, and gallo pinto.
Sarah Wormann Pluta
Director of Operations
After graduating from Fairleigh Dickinson University with a BA in Communications in 2008, Sarah took an extended trip to Ghana to volunteer in a school, and this sparked her interest in traveling and education. She began working with Amped for Education shortly after its creation in December 2009, while simultaneously teaching preschool and running a business selling her art. As the Director of Operations, her current work with Amped involves organizing volunteer trips, alumni relations, and running the sponsorship program. Sarah’s favorite things about Nicaragua are the vibrant colors, cheap fruit, and friendly people.
Our board members have a wide variety of backgrounds that bring invaluable insight to our organization.
