La Esperanza Granada has been instrumental in connecting Amped for Education to local communities in need and was a great partner in the construction of the secondary school in Nueva Esperanza. They host volunteers from all around the world who spend time in the public schools assisting teachers, tutoring students and introducing them to computers, running sports programs, teaching English, and helping stimulate an interest in learning. By providing opportunities and resources for the long-term educational advancement and community development of Nicaraguan neighborhoods, they brighten the futures of the children by empowering people to improve current living conditions and break the cycle of poverty. They are one of the most reputable education organizations in Granada and we are both proud and thankful to work with them.
The Batters Box was founded by lifelong baseball enthusiast Tim Kelleher. Always working to improve the lives of student athletes around him, Tim took this a step further by helping students in developing countries. The Batters Box collects and donates new and lightly used baseball equipment to Amped for Education to be used in its programs in Nicaragua. Amped for Education arranged the delivery of this equipment by facilitating a shipping container, full of the goods, being sent to Central America. Our students are forever grateful for the increased opportunity to play the game they love.
In 2015, Amped for Education applied for a grant through TripAdvisor to construct and open a second learning center in Nicaragua. The process involved a very in-depth proposal, as well as a sustainability plan to ensure the program’s long term success. At the end of the calendar year, we were informed that we received a grant for $30,000 to open the new center. We are extremely excited to work with them on this undertaking and look forward to years of continued partnership.
